Questions from museums, foundations and institutions
Is ArtCollection.io a full museum collections management system?
No. It is a catalogue for object records, locations, values and documents. It does not manage loan agreements, deaccession workflows or public online collections, so it suits foundations, artist estates and smaller institutions best.
Can we use our own object numbers?
Inventory numbers are generated automatically with a prefix you choose, and existing numbers can be imported from a CSV.
Can we record provenance and exhibition history?
Yes. Provenance, exhibition history and literature are recorded in full, each with supporting documents.
Can we import our existing records?
Yes. Upload a CSV, map its columns to our fields and preview before importing.
Can we share objects with researchers or lenders?
Yes. Private rooms let you share selected objects and choose which details appear.
