Trey Abdella
Biography
Trey Abdella mines cartoons, video games, retro ads, and library books to create trippy autobiographical paintings. Using a mix of techniques (including hyperrealistic painting, cartooning, and collage) and materials (including acrylics, pastels, chalkboard paint, glass, sand, and rocks), he adds drama, humor, and significant texture to mundane scenes. Abdella’s glitchy characters barbecue hot dogs, for example, or begrudgingly do the dishes. The artist completed his BFA at the School of Visual Arts and his MFA at the New York Academy of Art. Abdella has exhibited internationally, with shows in New York, Seattle, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
