The Fontaines are an old New Orleans family dating back to the 19th century. Stan, the youngest of seven children, at age 14 began working on the Mississippi River as a longshoreman, and eventually became captain of the riverboat Choctaw. The sights and sounds of Louisiana are his subject matter, painted mostly from memory and imagery of his days on the river. Stan Fontaine enjoyed a 30 year history as a member of the Jackson Square art colony in the famous French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. The sights and sounds of New Orleans gave him an early love for the arts and have been influential in shaping his artistic vision and style. Stan specializes in images of famous historic landmarks, colorful jazz musicians, and scenic landscapes. Stan now works from his studio in Cary, North Carolina. He paints on canvas using professional artists oils and acrylics.
