Robert Gordy

A Louisiana artist, Robert Gordy worked much of his life in New Orleans with exhibits and teaching experiences in many other areas of the United States. He became one of New Orleans’s most influential artists Gordy’s work is abstract He created a distinctive style by borrowing from a wide variety of sources: Cubism, Surrealism, Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Art Deco and African tribal art. He is known for his Matisse-like repeat patterning and figurative paintings and abstract studies of human heads. Whimsical, imaginative, contemporary shapes and unusual treatment of color delight the eye and at the same time offer a depth of interest and intellect that forces the viewer to delve for deeper meaning. Gordy worked in a variety of mediums that included acrylic, pen and ink, magic marker/felt-tip pen and mixed media. His specialty was printmaking.
