Paul Cézanne was a pioneering French painter born on January 19, 1839, in Aix-en-Provence, France. He is widely recognized as a pivotal figure in the transition from 19th-century Impressionism to 20th-century Cubism. Cézanne's work laid the groundwork for the radical changes in art that followed, influencing artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, who famously referred to him as "the father of us all." His innovative approach to form and color, characterized by repetitive, exploratory brushstrokes, challenged traditional perspectives and academic conventions. Cézanne's oeuvre includes over 900 oil paintings and 400 watercolors, with notable series such as the "Mont Sainte-Victoire" and "The Bathers."
