Omar Ronda
Born 1947
Omar Ronda was born in Portula (Italy) on September 11, 1947. From an early age, he developed a strong passion for the arts and devoted himself to painting. At that time, he met the director Maurizio Corgnati and his wife, the singer Milva, through which he met Carlo Fruttero and Franco Lucentini. In 1967, he founded an art gallery in Biella and with the help of Gian Enzo Sperone and Lucio Amelio, he organized a series of major exhibitions of Arte Povera (Pistoletto, Kounellis, Penone, Zorio, Merz, Boetti, Paolini, Calzolari and later Paladino, De Maria and Chia). From 1973 to 1974, he passed his time in New York where he met Leo Castelli and Eleana Sonnabend, with which he brought to Italy exhibitions of Rauschenberg, Warhol, Dine, Wesselmann, Twombly, Lichtenstein, Indiana, Oldenburg as well as the minimalist Sol LeWitt, Carl Andre, Robert Morris, and others. Later in New York, he met Basquiat and Heit Keith Haring. He then worked closely with Giorgio Marconi in Milan and organized with Lucrezia De Domizio Durini, in Pescara, a number of conferences and exhibitions of Joseph Beuys. In 1983, he closes his gallery to "create art", his true passion. In 1988, he passed long periods in Sardinia and visited the Saras Oil Refinery that stroke him deeply enough to develop a philosophy that he named Cracking Art. This philosophy led him to look for the ancient origins of oil and to transform it into art with his revolutionary and conceptual "language". In 1990 and 1991, he creates extreme installations on the top of mountain Mont Blanc and in the caves of Zuddas in Sardinia. He also spent six days and six nights in a vegetal pyramid below the « Catalytic Cracking » reactor of the Saras Oil. In 1993, he formed a group with other artists with which he organized exhibitions and installations using plastic animals that he designed and created. Ronda intends to radically change the history of art by 1993 in Milan, through a strong social and environmental commitment and a revolutionary and innovative use of materials.
