Nick Ferguson is a contemporary figurative painter who was born in Kenya (1989) and studied at University of Newcastle, Australia. Using varied material and scales he explore personal encounters broadly reflecting human relationships, rituals and interaction with nature. Since 2013 he has been represented by Art Atrium Gallery, Sydney. During this time he has had four successful solo exhibitions and multiple group exhibitions at other locations in Australia. Nick has also exhibited in many art prizes, with highlights being the Mosman Art Prize (2017), Paddington Art Prize (2014) and winning the Muswellbrook Art Prize in 2015. His successful 2018 solo exhibition 'The marks we've made' is a series of large paintings exploring his fascination with the destructive and aesthetic qualities of mining landscapes. It draws on experiences growing up in Newcastle and explores the tension between physical spectacle and gross energy consumption and climate change. Nick is currently preparing for a solo exhibition (Art Atrium Botany, Sydney) and Sydney Contemporary in 2020.
