Laura Griffith
Laura began her artistic studies at Stephen F. Austin University where she majored in photography and Fine Art. Her very first painting was an award winning picture; Laura said, “people were shocked and so was I. I never thought of myself as a painter.” Laura’s love for photography and fine art was equaled only by her love of sailing. She returned to her roots in Port Lavaca where she spent the next twenty years painting and sailing Matagorda Bay before setting sail for Florida and the Caribbean Sea. She sailed the waters around the Bahamas, Mexico, and Central America—as far south as Guatemala and as far north as the Chesapeake Bay. Finally settling on acrylic and pastels as her medium with her subjects chosen from her love of the sea and life along the coast. Birds, boats, sea life, and coastal settings have all been captured in acrylic and soft pastels. Currently living in Ingleside, Texas, she continues to paint and sail.
