Lara Saget
Lara Saget (b. 1989 Los Angeles, California; lives and works in Brooklyn, NY) Saget works in sculpture, installation, and performance. Her work makes materially visible the limitations of logic. Her practice is fueled by the belief that not all facts are absolute. Facts are, more often than not, placeholders for future facts. Through her sculptural practice, she merges materials, which are theoretically incompatible, using heat to make glass, rock, marble, bronze, and organic matter one form. In theory, glass should crack when melded with marble and marble should crack when melded with bronze, but she has found that this is not the case. She uses material and performative means to explore what it means for one entity to be separate from another. Saget has been an exhibiting artist for over ten years. Her work has been exhibited in varied spaces including Art Ichol, Maihar, India; Fortnight Institute, New York, NY; 80 Washington Square East Gallery, New York, NY; Studio 106, Los Angeles, CA; Wells Studio, Paris, France; Peninsula Art Space, Brooklyn, NY; A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; Art Helix, Brooklyn, NY, and more. Public art projects include Native Woodland Garden Public Art Project, Schwartz Plaza, Washington Square Park, New York, NY and Collaborative Concepts, Saunders Farm, Garrison, NY. Residencies include Art Ichol Bronze Casting and Stone Carving Residency, Maihar, India and CCA with Grzegorz Kowalski and Artur Żmijewski, Warsaw, Poland. She has received grants and awards including the 2017 New York University MFA Artistic Practice Award, the 2016 Steinhardt Scholarship Award, and the 2017/18 Urban Glass Scholarship Award. She co-founded Studio 200, an art exhibition collective in which shows curated coincide thematically with workshops, lectures, and installations of various media. Saget received her BA from Barnard College, Columbia University and her MFA in Fine Arts from New York University.
