Biography
Kennedy Yanko (b. 1988, St. Louis, MO) is an artist whose practice explores the primacy of the senses as a means to gain knowledge and disrupt preexisting associations. Yanko grounds herself in a physical practice, one based on her own bodily experience. She says, "I've always understood life through movement and my senses; I have to create something physically first in order to truly understand it intellectually." Yanko’s three-dimensional sculptural paintings represent this process, emulating the immersive, nuanced passage that she undergoes: the external physical space that her work demands brings the viewer into a highly suggestive inward world of perception.
