Kayla Mattes
Kayla Mattes is a visual artist working across disciplines including weaving, sculpture and installation. She archives the ephemeral vernacular of digital culture through the interconnected threads of tapestry. Recent exhibitions include Richard Heller Gallery (Los Angeles), San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, Museum Rijswijk (Netherlands), Guerrero Gallery (San Francisco) and FISK Gallery (Portland, OR). Her work is included in the book, Weavers: Contemporary Makers on the Loom, written by Katie Tregidden and published by Ludion. She received a BFA in Textiles from Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 and an MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2019. Though now based in Los Angeles, she taught a range of Textiles classes at Wildcraft from 2015-2017 while living and working in Portland.
