Joanne Howard received her MFA in Mixed Media from Hunter College in 2011, a BFA from Syracuse University School of Visual & Performing Arts and in 1981 attended the Skowhegan School. Howard works in a variety of media including Ceramics, Fabric, Site Specific Installation, while maintaining a regular drawing practice. In addition to her studio practice, Howard has been collaborating as set designer with Brooklyn based theater company Big Dance Theater since 1992. Howard received a Bessie Award with Big Dance Theater for “Best Collaboration” in 2010 and a NYFA Fellowship in 2008 for Architecture/Environmental Structures. She has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Her most recent project was a site specific wallpaper installation at The Glyndor Gallery at Wave Hill, The Bronx from 2017-2019. Howard will mount a one person show at Kentler International Drawing Space in the spring of 2021. Additionally, she will mount a public art project in the Carl Schurz Park in NYC also in the Spring of 2021.
