Izu Muoneme
Born 1983
ARTIST PROFILE:  Born on 2nd May. Izuu usually use pieces of papers or aluminum cans to explore various art forms in his collage, mosaics and installations. His works always narrate socio-cultural issues in Africa, a subject he has been exploring for over five years. With varied styles and technique, his works usually portray the essence of peaceful coexistence and violent free developed society. Apart from his use of captivating vibrant colours and creative patterns, he also employ abstract forms in his creative expressions. He has participated in the various edition of Life in My City Art Festival (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016) in Enugu-Nigeria. In the 2015 edition of Life in City Art Festival (LIMCAF), his collage work done with discarded aluminium cans won the prize for best painting/mixed media/drawing. He also won Vin Martin Ilo’s prize for the best entry in Enugu zone during the 2013 edition of LIMCAF. In November 2015, he had a two-man exhibition titled “folkloric expressions” at National Gallery of Art, Enugu-Nigeria. He was among the 12 finalists at the 9th edition of National Art Competition organized by African Artist Foundation and Nigerian Breweries in Lagos-Nigeria. Izuu has featured in various group exhibitions, competitions and workshops in Nigeria. His works have been shown at: National Gallery of Art, Abuja-Nigeria, Spannish Embassy, Abuja-Nigeria, Thought Pyramid Art Center, Abuja, African Artists Foundation, Lagos and Palace of the Obi of Onitsha-Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta-Nigeria and other places.    Various Nigerian newspapers and art journal have published some articles about his works.    ARTIST STATEMENT Art entails finding fresh voice and unbeaten path. This is exactly what I seek. It is not about the individual artist, but about the material, the concept and the quest to arouse diverse thoughts. While I am interested in exploring fresh challenges, I hope to bring forth the feelings and voices of discarded objects in artistic productions. While focusing on creating a healthy environment, my art hopes to connect people, build love and produce art anywhere with anything.
