Baker creates paintings, drawings and mixed media artwork that emphasize aesthetics through personal statements and musings about the state of the contemporary human condition. Touching on various overlapping themes, his paintings attempt to redefine unity by disuniting it, then asserting meaning to what otherwise could have gone unnoticed. Several reoccurring themes emerge in his work such as the relation of art with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations. His paintings often refer to mass or classical cultures. Not meaning to draw any conclusions or impose any point of views, Baker longs to uncover the flaws and contradictions that are at the heart of the esthetic discourse through powerful relatable imagery. Using written and drawn symbols, he paints a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined. By using popular themes such as sensuality, relationships and violence, he approaches a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way. Deconstructing his own accomplishment, sometimes years after he completes them, he paints on them again as if they were new canvases. He re-layers, strips and re-exposes hidden layers along unadulterated black lines involving the viewer, sometimes physically.
