Biography
Dave Muller is an American artist best known for his renderings of album cover spines and his sardonic cartoons featured in The New Yorker and the New York Times. He humorous and satirical works often comment on a number of issues relating to identity and the arts. Born in 1964 in San Francisco, CA, Muller earned a joint degree in chemistry and art from the University of California at Davis and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. After completing his education, he designed watercolor posters to promote upcoming exhibitions, notably for Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol’s solo exhibitions. Over the course of the late-nineties and early 2000s, the artist was the subject of a number of solo exhibitions at institutions across the country, including the St. Louis Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Additionally, he presented his work at the 2004 Whitney Biennial and the 2008 Lyon Biennale. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Armand Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, among others. He lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
