Angela Marie Hoener
Angela Hoener investigates the transitivity of identity, using fashion and painting to invert the concept of the figurative through the perspective of the participant. By using clothing, she is dressing the participant and the participant becomes a cross-dresser. These objects are directly taken from the flux of commercial negotiation and are used for social construct and self-appropriation. Clothing—in addition to being necessary, a display of vanity and beauty—is about power. Angela Hoener received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Painting and Drawing. Her studies also include, Fashion Design at Parson’s/The New School and fresco painting at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Instituto in Florence, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria and The United States and will be featured in the upcoming New American Painting, West Edition #144. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and Heber, UT.
