Alexander May
Born 1983
Alexander May’s work centers around language, often abstracting the formal characteristics of communication, such as the shapes of letters and numbers. While in Beirut, a patch of bright orange-red dirt caught May’s eye. Bringing some of this dirt back with him to his studio in New York, he began painting with mud. With a background in sculpture, May also makes objects which often have audio components. May recieved his MFA in Sculpture from Bard College in New York in 2012. Solo exhibitions include Balice Hurtling in Paris, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, ASS in New York, and TÄT in Berlin. Group exhibitions include the Metropolitan Art Society in Beirut, The National Exemplar in New York, Fluxia in Milan, Room East in New York, and Bodega in Philadelphia.
