Adam Linn
Adam Linn was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 with a BFA in Printmaking. Currently, he resides in his hometown of Pittsburgh where he maintains his studio practice. He has exhibited locally with Bunker Projects, G1/CW and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. He is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the oldest and longest running arts organization in the United States. Additionally, he is a member of the Pittsburgh Print Group and is slated to act as an exhibition co-chair to organize contemporary print media shows in the area. He was a printmaking resident at Vermont Studio Center and the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Adam is currently a member of the Distillery Residency at the Brewhouse Association on the Southside of Pittsburgh. Linn creates images that merge collections of queer pop culture obsessions with the sinister medium of anthropomorphism. His inability to identify with heteronormative culture at such a young age forced him to create familiarities and intimacies with inanimate "pop" objects. These entities, coveted in youth, transcended into Linn's adulthood manifesting in his work today. Throughout the years these pop objects have shaped Linn's understanding of sexuality and identity, allowing him to transport to realms filled with stylized femme personas and action-packed glossy visuals. As a closeted youth the ever present fear of being "outed" based on ones interests encouraged repression of what made them who they really were. Through these repressed obsessions, these themes have morphed into fetishized artifacts of an anxious and hyper-aware childhood. Seeking to memorialize the sensation the films, music and internet provided him as a youth, Linn's work basks in the visual splendor of an unapologetically flamboyant flavor. Primarily using drawing, Linn accentuates line and transforms preconceived notions of materiality, breathing new life into these revived personas. Each image reads as a perverse, queered and stretched iteration of its real life counter part, challenging the viewer’s understanding of familiar spaces and emotions. The works take on a life of their own, building a world rife with prepubescent experimentation and wonder.
