Nicelle Beauchene Gallery
In April 2008, Nicelle Beauchene Gallery established its exhibition space in the Lower East Side to grant focus to innovative artistic practices across media and to advocate for a diverse group of artists through international engagement with curators, collectors and critics. Over the last 12 years the gallery has mounted over 100 critically acclaimed exhibitions at the gallery with gallery artists showing at major international institutions including: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Drawing Center, NY; Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Walker Museum, Minneapolis; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Drawing Center, New York; P.S.1, New York; LACMA, Los Angeles; Aldrich Museum, CT; Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy; Nasher Museum; V&A, London; WIELS, Belgium; ICA, London; ICP, New York to name a few. In December 2012, Nicelle Beauchene relocated into a historic two-story building shared with Jack Hanley, where the galleries exchange spaces monthly. Beauchene spearheaded this move as a sensitive response to site—extending the Lower East Side's histories characterized by collaboration and flexible exhibition contexts. In 2018, Nicelle Beauchene Galley expanded into a second space, a project space staged in an apartment. The unique platform encourages artists to reconfigure and reconceptualize the parameters and boundaries of a domestic sphere. Nicelle Beauchene cofounded Parts & Labor Beacon with Franklin Parrasch in Spring 2019, an exhibition space dedicated to showing an emerging to mid-career contemporary artist in conversation with a more historically recognized artist in order to reframe and re-contextualize important dialogues while allowing intimate conversations to unfold. Lois Dodd, Gee's Bend Quiltmakers, Ray Johnson, Shara Hughes, Sam Moyer, John McAllister are some of the artists Parts & Labor Beacon has been working with. Beauchene was the President of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) from 2010-2017.
