Tornabuoni Arte was founded in Florence in 1981 in Via Tornabuoni, on the initiative of Roberto Casamonti, his strong passion for art is inherited from his father, a collector of Italian 20th-century art.
In addition to the gallery's headquarters in Lungarno Cellini, throughout the years Tornabuoni Arte opened locations in Milan (1995), in Forte dei Marmi (2004), two galleries in Florence – Tornabuoni Arte Antica (2006), and three more in Europe: Crans-Montana in Switzerland (1993), Paris (2009), and London (2015).
Each year Tornabuoni Arte's galleries organize exhibitions to display a selection of great international artists of the XX century, such as J. M. Basquiat, Christo, J. Dubuffet, V. Kandinsky, H. Hartung, V. Lam, S. Matta, J. Mirò, P. Picasso, S. Poliakoff and A. Warhol, together with the main artists of the Italian Art history, like G. Balla, A. Boetti, A. Burri, E. Castellani, M. Ceroli, G. De Chirico, P. Dorazio, L. Fontana, P. Manzoni, M. Marini, G. Morandi, A. Pomodoro, P. Scheggi, just to name a few.
During the annual traveling exhibition activities, each gallery organizes both solo shows on well-known or promising young artists and exhibitions on the Avant-gardes of the post WWII. In the recent years, Tornabuoni Arte has arranged solo exhibitions on A. Boetti, A. Burri, G. Capogrossi, E. Castellani, M. Ceroli, Dadamaino, L. Fontana, A. Pomodoro, P. Scheggi.
Today Roberto Casamonti, his daughter Ursula and his son Michele, continuously work on the research and expansion of the most significant and historic artistic movements of the XX century and of the new intresting contemporary artists (P. Atchugarry, A. Furunes, O. Galliani, M. Ohanjanyan, F. Pasquali, G. Pontrelli).
Tornabuoni Arte takes part in the most important international fairs of contemporary art, like Fiac in Paris, Tefaf in Maastricht and in New York, Art Basel in Basel, in Miami Beach, and in Hong Kong, Frieze Masters in London, Arte Fiera in Bologna, Miart in Milan. The collaboration with museums and foundations is continuous.
