Galeria Raquel Arnaud
The history of Galeria Raquel Arnaud begins in 1973, when the Gabinete de Artes Gráficas was founded. Engraving, drawing, and paper work were initially the main focus. In 1980, became Gabinete de Arte Raquel Arnaud, specialized in Brazilian contemporary art. The gallery has changed address a few times through outstanding and impressive venues signed by architects such as Lina Bo Bardi, Ruy Ohtake and Felippe Crescenti. The eldest generation represented by the gallery or present in its collection participated actively in the founding movements of the constructive tradition in Latin America: Hércules Barsotti, Amilcar de Castro, Willys de Castro, Luis Sacilotto, Lygia Clark, Mira Schendel, Franz Weissman; others had singular trajectories, like Mira Schendel or Sergio Camargo, whose estate is represented by Raquel Arnaud. Arthur Luiz Piza and Sérvulo Esmeraldo, recently deceased, were also fundamental in the history of the gallery and whose works the gallery continues to exhibit. Consolidated artists such as Waltercio Caldas, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Iole de Freitas and Carlos Zilio are part of the current program of the gallery, as well as a generation to follow, which began production in the late 80's, including Frida Baranek, Elisa Bracher, Célia Euvaldo, Geórgia Kyriakakis. Together with younger artists, such as Carlos Nunes and Carla Chaim (who surges internationally, receiving awards such as the Future Generation Art Prize), they testify the consolidation of a new contemporary language in Brazilian art. Raquel Arnaud’s Gallery consolidated its status in Brazil and overseas for its coherency and unique contribution to the valorization of the Brazilian art. Outlining incisive visual choices in the endeavor of putting into perspective the trends that it represents.
