Pierre Huyghe
Born 1962 • French
Pierre Huyghe was born in Paris in 1962. Huyghe’s works often present themselves as complex systems characterized by a wide range of life forms, inanimate things and technologies. His constructed organisms combine not only biological, technological and fictional elements, they also produce an immersive, constantly changing environment, in which humans, animals and non-beings learn, evolve and grow. Recent solo exhibitions include “UUmwelt” at the Serpentine Gallery, London, UK (2018); “After ALife Ahead” at Skulptur Projekte Münster, Germany (2017); “The Roof Garden” Commission at the Metropolitan Museum, New York (2015), among others. In 2012 -2014, a major retrospective of Huyghe’s work travelled from the Centre Pompidou, Paris to the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany and to Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California, USA. Other recent solo shows include Espace Louis Vuitton, Venice, Italy (2017); Guggenheim Bilbao, Spain (2017); Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada (2016); Sprengel Museum, Hannover, Germany (2016); TarraWara Museum of Art, Australia (2015); Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City, Mexico (2012); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain and The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (2010); Tate Modern, London, England (2006); Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland (2005); and Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin (2004), among others.
