Jim Lambie
Jim Lambie is a contemporary Scottish artist whose work focuses on music and visual stimulation. Lambie employs neon colors and music paraphernalia such as posters and album covers in many of his sculptures and installations. “I want to suggest the way a space changes when you put a record on. I want to set up this intense psychological space,” he has explained. Born in 1964 in Glasgow, United Kingdom, he went on to study at the Glasgow School of Art where he befriended David Shrigley. Lambie’s 1999 installation Zobop, consists of vinyl strips of tape that follow the contours of the space, creating a dizzying environment highlighting the floor space. In 2005, he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize and his works are currently held in the collections of the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others. The artist continues to live and work in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
