Wade Guyton
Born 1972
Wade Guyton (b. 1972, Hammond, IN) Wade Guyton is an American painter and sculptor born in 1972 in Hammond, Indiana. He received a BFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Over the past decade, Guyton has pioneered a groundbreaking body of work that explores our changing relationships to images and artworks through the use of common digital technologies, such as the desktop computer, scanner, and inkjet printer. Guyton’s purposeful misuse of these tools to make paintings and drawings results in beautiful accidents that relate to daily lives now punctuated by misprinted photos and blurred images on our cell phones and computer screens. Wade Guyton has shown extensively in the U.S. and abroad and has had solo exhibitions at the Museum Brandhorst, Munich (2017); Musée d’art moderne et contemporain (MAMCO), Geneva (2016); Le Consortium, Dijon (2016); Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop, Bottrop (2014); Kunsthalle Zurich, Switzerland (2013); the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2012); The Secession, Vienna, Austria (2011); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2010); and his work has been in group exhibitions at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2012); MOCA, Los Angeles (2012); Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2012); the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas (2011); and the Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria (2011). Wade Guyton is a recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Award in Art, 2014; the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, 2004; the Socrates Sculpture Park Emerging Artist Grant, 2003; the Artists Space Independent Projects Grant, 2002; the Delfina Studio Trust, London, 2000.
