Bosco Sodi is a contemporary Mexican multimedia artist. In his inventive sculptures and paintings, he employs raw pigment, sawdust, and glue to create richly layered and textural surfaces rendered in bright monochrome. His work often achieves a geological texture, replete with cracks and chasms that recall primordial landscapes and elements of the natural world. “Wabi-sabi is the philosophy upon which I base my whole work,” the artist has explained, referencing the traditional Japanese aesthetic term. “It’s about embracing the accident, embracing the non-control, embracing the passing of time and working with organic materials.” Sodi is influenced by a variety of artists, including the Color Field paintings of Mark Rothko as well as the Art Informel works of Jean Dubuffet. Born in 1970 in Mexico City, Mexico, Sodi has widely exhibited internationally, notably including Paul Kasmin Gallery in Los Angeles, Blain Southern in London, and the Bronx Museum in New York. Today, works can be found in the collections of the Luis Barragán Foundation in Basel, the IBM Building in New York, and the Museo Internacional del Arte Aplicada Oggi in Turin among others.
